Description

Herodotus of Halicarnassus was an Ionian traveler and storyteller who lived in the 5th century BC. He is almost exclusively known for writing The Histories, a collection of "inquiries" about the places and peoples he encountered during his wide-ranging travels around the Mediterranean littoral and into the Mesopotamia.

I managed to get through volume one and someday may take on volume two. But I will put it off for a bit as there is more out there of interest to me at this time.

Not a great deal is known of Herodotus other than he was one of the early historians. It made me wonder the way these early works are put

together of that we are aware anyway, just how much is in fact history and how much other things are added by the author.

Herodotus covers the early battles between the Greeks, Persians, and a host of others, the ongoing battles we witness to this day. The past repeating itself endlessly apparently. And in between these encounters he relates a wide variety of aspects in the lives of these ancients throughout the Mediterranean and Africa.

On my list as a must read for a well rounded education, mission accomplished. Volume two is pending. I will bask in my ignorance a while longer it seems.
