In this story, Fred is a dog and he is a young girl's best friend. They play together, eat together, and go back and forth from mom and dads together. Mom gets mad when Fred barks at the neighbor's poodle and dad gets mad when Fred eats his socks. So Fred can stay with the little girl, her and her
Show More
parents each come up with ideas. Fred becomes friends with the neighbor's poodle and gets a new chew toy other than dad's socks. Divorce is a topic of this story and that is something most kids can relate to now a days. Although divorce is far from easy, this story shows that as long as you have a friend there to help get you through it, it makes each day better.

This is a very special book about a little girl who's parents are divorced. She sometimes lives at her mom's house and the other times she lives at her dad's house. No matter where she is, however, Fred is always with her. Fred is a lovable dog that provides friendship, love, and loyalty during a
Show More
time that can be very uncertain for children. Fred also has a hard time adjusting to the two different houses and eventually drives both the mom and the dad crazy! When the question of where shouod Fred stay comes up, it is quickly answered by the little girl. "Fred stays with me!" This is a great book that can help kids understand what it is like to have two different places to live as a result of a divorce.

The stories talks about broken family and it has a problem in the story that every child will face; however with communication, most likely everyone will come to consent. This story too, will show parents that things will work out if the parent and the child come to an agreement if the problem is

issued. The illustration was beautifully put together. I love the funny pictures such as the dog conflict.

Coffelt's picture book tells the story of a young girl whose parents are divorced; she travels from her mom to dad's house, but her dog, Fred, always goes with her. Fred causes trouble with both mom and dad, but the girl reminds them that Fred is HER dog, and he stays with her. Each household
Show More
devises a plan to help Fred behave while he is there. The setting is vague besides stating that the girl goes to each parent's house, and likes to spend time outdoors with Fred. The illustrations, which are large and muted in color, add detail to the limited text. While the plot revolves around the problem with Fred, kids will also benefit from the overall theme of dealing with divorce. The book points out that while some things change and are very different after divorce (like living in two houses), many things, like school, friends, and pets, stay the same. The girl enjoys doing different things with her mom and dad. This is an easy read, with one or two lines of text per page, and simple language. It would make a good addition to a elementary school library.

In this book a child describes how she lives sometimes with her mother and sometimes with her father, but her dog is her constant companion. The strength of this book is the story. It is a good one for helping children to learn to cope with divorce or other changes in their lives. The dog bridges
Show More
the gap in the girl’s life and gives her control in a situation she must accept. The pictures help to illustrate some of the funny situations that get the dog into trouble, however they lack a lot of color.

Genre: Realistic Fiction Age Appropriateness: Primary Review: This book is a good example of realistic fiction because the characters and plot are believable and easy to relate to. In the book, the child describes how she lives with her mother and father at different times. While transitioning
Show More
between parents, her dog, Fred, is her constant companion. She will never leave him, even if her parents continue complaining. Both the girl and dog respect and love each other. Media: This book is a good example of ink and wash and markers because the scenery and characters are outlined in ink and filled with watercolor. There is also signs of markers used to emphasize the scenery.

A beautiful book with an important story to tell. A young girl is shuttled back and forth between divorced parents. Her world is split between two places but the one constant in her life is that her dog, Fred, goes with her where ever she goes. The illustrations are done in sepia tones that warm
Show More
the heart. The story is told from the girl's point of view and the point is...where she stays...Fred stays.

A story about a little girl who goes from Mom to Dad and shares the experiences she has but always with Fred. Fred is her dog, best friend and helps her through the changes. I liked this book because it is simple on the illustrations and places more emphasis on the story. I am glad there are

stories about divorced parents because it is something that needs to be addressed for children especially since it is a part of many kids lives.

Review: This a great example of realistic fiction. Although the details of this book are made up there are many kids whose parents are divorced and know what it is like to go between homes and have everything change, but they desire something to stay constant such as having a dog go with them to
Show More
each home.

Setting: This setting is a backdrop setting. Children all over the world could relate with this story of having parents who don't live together.

This is the story of a girl stuck between two houses. Her parents live in different houses and while the character is pulled around she always takes her trusty dog Fred. She goes to the same school as she did before but now she has two rooms. Fred adapts quickly and has his routines at each house,
Show More
eventually driving both parents crazy. When both parents decide that Fred can no longer stay with them, the hero of the story explains, "Fred doesn't stay with either of you. Fred stays with ME!". This is a very cute story to help children of divorce. It could give the child an idea to keep one thing with them to make them feel comfortable. It could also help them see that other children live in two houses. It has very cute illustrations and is a very simple read with only one sentence per page.

This would be a fantastic story to read to any child, but especially a child of divorce. This little girl goes back and forth between her mom's and dad's house, but her dog Fred always stays with her. Great story about how she still goes to the same school and has her same friends, she just has two

homes. Great meaning behind this cute picture book.

Fred the dog goes with his young girl owner to both mom and dad's house. He destroys things and parents tell their daughter "Fred can't stay here." At the end, the daughter states, "Fred stays with me!" I like how the dog, Fred, is the one consistent thing in this little girl's life. I like how the
Show More
light shinning on the girl and dog, holding eachother, in the last picture, reflects the meaning of the story.

Insightful and loving book introduces reader to Fred, loyal doggy companion that follows daughter whether she's staying at her mother's or her father's home.

I really liked this book for two reasons. One, the illustrations are great! And two, the topic of a child of divorced parents is rarely depicted in books but is such a common theme in today's society. Classroom use: I would use this as a read aloud while discussing family and how people have

different families

Genre: Realistic Fiction

This book is a good example of realistic fiction because it tells the story about a little girl whose parents are divorced, and while that is tough, she still has her pet, Fred, to be with at all times. This is a story that could be real in our world. The reader easily
Show More
follows along with the protagonist and her favorite pet dog, Fred.

What a great story about the trials of divorce. The little girl found comfort in her dog, even though her parents saw the dog as a pain. The girl wanted to keep her dog, her best friend, because it was a sign of stability in a changing world. The dog made a mess at her fathers house and annoyed her

mother, but through it all, he was a faithful friend.

"Fred stays with me!" is a book about a little girl whose parents are divorced and how no matter where she is Fred her dog goes with her. The dog becomes troublesome and the parents tell the little girl that Fred can stay with them anymore and the little girl sets them straight by explaining to
Show More
them that Fred stays with her not them!

This book is adorable and puts a smile on my face every time I read it. It’s a great honest way to look at divorce in villain free way.

I would use this book as reading assignment where I'd read the book to the students and have them go into the one thing that they wouldn't ever want to live without!
