I just finished reading Never Have I Ever, and I enjoyed this installment of The Lying Game series, but sadly, not as much as the first. The urgency to read this book was largely in wanting to know who the killer was and what happens with Emma in the aftermath. I thought it was a little
Show More
disappointing that this book doesn't reveal either. However, who hasn't felt that way about a book series? So it's not a flaw in the story itself.

Positives: I felt so emotionally wrapped up in Emma's life and confusion that I never fully trusted a single character throughout the entire story. I love that in a book. That connection with a character is rare. I usually have a pretty clear idea of where a book is leading to, but I found the ending shocking. The last scene of this book definitely leaves me excited to start the next in the series as soon as possible. :)

Negatives: I don't trust Ethan. Which is a bummer. I always enjoy a romantic development between two characters, and I found him to be too sneaky and suspicious to connect to. Thankfully the mystery of Sutton's murder, and the 'taking the place of your dead twin' plot line more than make up for it.

In conclusion, I recommend this series, but suggest you make it a point to read the first installment, and get comfortable waiting, because if Sara Shepard's series Pretty Little Liars is in any indication, it's going to be awhile. ;)

"Never Have I Ever" wasn't quite as unique, fun and twisted as the first book "The Lying Game" in the series of the same name. Still the book was enjoyable. I don't necessarily know if Emma has gotten any closer to finding her twin sister Sutton's murderer but along the way we find out more about
Show More
the events that led up to the murder and by the end of this installment Emma is able to cross several suspects off the list. However, more questions seem to keep popping up.

I liked the book just fine but it really did end up feeling like not enough happened. I still have more questions than answers at the moment and I don't mind this being a series but I hope it isn't completely drawn out through so many installments that it ends up getting boring or overly convoluted. Emma is a nice, strong character and I like reading about her but Sutton was just an unbelievable mess. Right now her friends haven't exactly won me over yet either.

So, without giving much away, there was some action, and some small things revealed but it wasn't anything earth shattering. Still if you want to move on with the series, I do believe it will be very important not to miss one along the way.

NEVER HAVE I EVER, by Sara Shepard is the highly anticipated sequel to her newest series The Lying Game. Emma is still playing Sutton but someone knows that she is not who she pretends to be. Lurking around every corner is Sutton's killer and the games he/she plays with Emma get downright

dangerous.

This book was un-put-downable! Shepard has the talent for weaving intricate mystery plots that will make your head spin. There isn't too much I can say without ruining the plot, but Shepard did help eliminate some of the questions I had about who killed Sutton. But along with those eliminations came more suspects and a killer cliffhanger! I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series to understand who really killed Sutton and why.

I loved that Emma and Ethan are getting closer. They are absolutely adorable and I love that Ethan is the only person who is constant in Emma's life and understands who she really is. I also liked getting a better background on how evil and manipulative Sutton was and how her 'ghost' is handling the revelations as well. Overall, this book is FILLED with heart-pounding suspense and action and I loved each second of it. Shepard truly has me hooked on this series!!

After a few weeks of swapping her worn-out foster life for her deceased twin’s former high life, Emma Paxton is still on the case. She is playing the part of her ex-sibling to solve the mysterious factors that landed said twin, Sutton, in a rather otherworldly position. And by “otherworldly”,
Show More
I mean “dead”. Though the dilemma of mismatched identity is becoming old hat, the drama of the still unsolved disappearance has no hope of getting old any time soon.

The relationships she thought she had built, during the first installment, shift and shatter, leaving her to both trust and question everything and nothing.

This series is exactly why I love reading, yet ate reviewing, books in series. I feel like I cou;d do a seriously bang up review if I knew everyone had read the first book but I know that’s not true. It’s especially difficult, in this case, since the entire four book series explores the mystery. It’s not simply a series that answers a whodunit in a single volume.

Though I can’t give much away, I can still tell you that I’m well addicted to this little adventure. Yes, it’s pretty young for my reading habits but it’s also incredibly fun. For a mystery, it’s certainly comprised of enough twists and turns. I’m sure that, as soon as I find out who the killer is, it will seem as though it was obvious from the beginning but, for right now, I can tell you that I’m totally in the dark. I’m dying, here, knowing that the third book is going to be done within a day and then I’ll have to wait until this summer for all of the answers. Eek!

I also have to add a side note: I have no idea how they’ve made this into a t.v. series! I know that Shepard’s other mystery thriller series, Pretty Little Liars, has been given the same treatment but it’s a much longer series and it’s also, I think, complete. I might be tempted to investigate the show, later this summer, when the last book is out. No possible spoilers for me, thank you!

emma has lots of guess's to make because her twins sisters life was really mussed up. cause her sister always does tricks on other people. so anyone at school or out side the school have done it. but on this socond book Thayer is back. Thayer and emmas sister use to be lovers but suddenly Thayer dispeerd while emma found out she has a twins sister and she found out that her sister was dead. so now the best guess she has is that Thayer might have done it. people who are reading this, you guys should read it becasuse i think you will like it. well i know for sure you will like it, it is that good.

The second book in the Lying Game series picks up right where the first one leaves off and ends right where I'm guessing the third one starts back up. I find myself completely drawn into this story and can't wait to find out what's going to happen. After I'm done with this, I definitely plan on
Show More
starting the Pretty Little Liars series also by Sara Shepard. I really enjoy her writing style.

After spending a bit of time trying to decide whether I love or hate this series, I think I do like it. My biggest complaint is that it feels like the author drew out this series into more books than necessary to make more money. Although I'm on the second of four, it seems very probable that the
Show More
whole series could easily have gone into one, or possibly two, books.

The elements of these books are definitely teen pleasers. The "it crowd" along with all the bff, cattiness, boyfriend, etc., that entails. Sudden rise to popularity of a nobody girl. And, of course, the mystery. It's a fun concept. I just feel like there's a lot of fluff and nothingness.

Judging from the first two books, it seems like each book has a suspect or group of suspects who are then ruled out in the end, except of course (hopefully!) the last book. My guess for a suspect is Ethan. Just putting it out there now.

Amazing. Taking over your dead sisters life, telling no one shes dead, falling in love with some one your sister never would have, and keeping secrets from the family you wish you had.

Pro: Good pacing
Con: Cliff hanger ending

Pro: Characters are flushing out
Con: Random parade of name brands continues

Pro: Mysteries are solved at same/near rate to mysteries being introduced
Con: No end in sight

Lately, I have been reading a lot of second novels that simply fall flat. Happily, "Never
Show More
Have I Ever" advancing the story line, rules out some of the more obvious possibilities, and introduces new mystery.

I do think a lot of my enjoyment of these novels comes from the nostalgic feeling I get while reading.

This is book 2 in a series. I bought the first book without paying attention to the fact that it was one book in a series, of six books no less! Unhappy with myself for not paying attention, I found the story too addicting to just let go. So, in book two, we continue.

And at the end of book two, we
Show More
still don’t know who killed Sutter. I am resigned to buying all books in the series, but I’ll do so as I read them. In this book, we examine several suspects. Emma, and the ghostly Sutton, examine and reflect on the motives of all her friends, and even her sister Laurel. Suspects are vetted, trusted, and suspected again. The half paranormal pair examine jealous rivals. All of this sleuth work takes place with a background of unusual, dangerous, and cruel pranks that all characters seem to feel comfortable playing on each other, friend and foe alike.

And then, not a spoiler, at the end of book two yet another mysterious character appears. This is enjoyable reading, good writing, and I feel motivating for readers working with English as a second language.

On to book three.

A fun, light book. It's basically more of the same as the first book. I guess that each book is going to have different murder suspects that prove false by the end of the book? I'd like some assurance that the murder will be solved at some point. I like it, but it's nothing particularly special.
