discovering the wrong information— just when his mother, Sunadomari Yoshiko, is due for a visit. As Tetsuo stays away from his pursuers and Yoshiko attempts to find out what happened to him, they both uncover corruption among the Luculenti and the trail of a transhuman serial killer.

Meaney has a well-visualized far future; he has a background in both physics and computer science (as do I), and I find the science in his fiction good. The story builds up to quite the page-turner; it kept me up late last night. There were some rough edges here and there where some pieces didn’t quite fit together, but all in all this is a good first novel.
