Description

What's so funny about a library? Just about everything, as you'll find out in Library Mascot Cage Match, the third Unshelved collection. In addition to a year's worth of comic strips featuring library mascots duking it out and the return of the masked mystery man known only as "the Shusher," LMCM features the all-new full-color graphic novelette Empire County Strikes Back. Can Mallville's librarians defeat the mother of all bookmobiles?

I found this book in my Little Free Library and was puzzled by it. The
title made no sense. It appeared to be a graphic novel so I took it inside to read. It turned out to be a book of comic strips about people who work in a library. The "library mascot" turned out to be a beaver. The librarian who
Show More
works at the information desk is Dewey. There are other characters who fill out other roles in the library.

I thought this book was quite funny - even laugh out loud so in some places. I learned from the woman who placed this book in my Little Free Library (Thanks, MDGentleReader!) that this is also a web comic which I'll look up soon online.

For its great humor, I'm going to be passing it along to my daughter's future mother-in-law and one of her future brothers-in-law, both of whom are librarians. I hope they enjoy this book as much as I did.

Hmmmm...

I first read this comic online, probably about six years ago, when I was first discovering web-comics. I lost track of it eventually, and was rather surprised (in a good way) when I ran into yesterday at my local library. In the end I was a little disappointed; like all webcomics I tried
Show More
starting out at the very beginning when I first got into it, and it was funny. Three volumes later, there's been little to no innovation in either writing or art, and so I was kind of disappointed. They seem to be taking their queues from traditional newspaper comics, which is probably some of reason I was sort of bored.

I will probably give their latest work another chance (I believe they are still going).

Oh my the graphic comic novellete, Empire County Strikes Back was totally and utterly hilarious. Putting a humorous spin on truthful words that most librarians have wanted to scream at the top of their lungs at one point or another.

The rest of the strips were fun too (and the conference tips oddly
Show More
helpful while being funny still). A good compilation of a good web comic.

No book-talk, just lots of laughs. The 'graphic novelette' was cute. My son and I just can't get enough of these collections. So glad they've got a website and e-mail list!

Each one of these books are a gems for librarians and book lovers. In this one, Dewey goes to the dentists, the librarians fight the evil bookmobile and will Buddy the Beaver win the Mascot Cage Match? You need to read it in order to find out! At least in this book I finally found out that Buddy
Show More
wears a costume and is not actually a real beaver! That's a relief! I look forward to reading more of these books!
