An book about designing a house focusing on usable space rather than actual space. While the ideas were good and practical (and I'm very big on practicality), the designs were still larger than what I'd want for my house.

This book contains a collection of columns from Fine Homebuilding. Nothing is covered in any particular depth, but there is a lot of neat little solutions and different ways to think about common problems which make the book worthwhile.

Should be required reading for anyone contemplating a home remodel. She encourages the reader to step back and ask, "Why do I want to remodel? What problems need to be solved?" In response to those answers, she provides several clever ideas that demonstrate good "out of the box" thinking. Ms.

Susanka's advice and ideas could save you tens of thousands of dollars - well worth the time and the price of the book.

I would say this is in the middle of the pack as far as Susanka's books go. I would love to see more ways of adapting these to apartments, workplaces, and other settings.

nice to see a useful book about small spaces.... as opposed to surreal dreams
