What an amazing story!! This is the story of an English "criminal" sentenced to be an indentured servant in the "New World" just for spilling milk!! Strange!! Molly went on to do more things considered illegal, she staked land, bought a slave but treated him well, went on to marry him. She also

taught her children and grandchildren to read and to read the Bible. Molly must have been a one of kind gem to have the character to be and do all the things she did in the face of adversity. Her grandson went on to be a city planner in D.C. and wrote an almanac and some other cool stuff. You'll have to read the book Benjamin Bannaker to find out about all the cool stuff he did. This book is terrific!! I recommend it for grades 4+

She attends a slave auction, buying Bannaky to help her with the crops with the intent of freeing him. However, they fall in love and marry.

This story offers great illustrations of hard work and rough faced individuals working hard to gain freedoms and accomplish great tasks. Children may not understand slavery and the ways life used to be, but can gain an understanding for the need to work hard even when times are tough because great things can be achieved.

This is a great book to show kids that we can not always judge a book by its cover. It is a good way to see what their perception of society is.

The book is about a girl in 17th century England who escapes the punishment of death, gets send to be an indentured servant in an American colony, who later gains her freedom, and marries an African slave. This is a good book for children ages 8 and up.
