Gagnon is a good writer and each hike he's included has a little historical background, info on any noteworthy flora, fauna, and geological features you may encounter. Of course, he provides directions for how to get to the starting point and instructions for the route of the hike. I've personally been on many of these routes and I'm always amazed by how beautiful and wild it is in mountains so close to a city holding 3 million people.
