A standout, erudite commentary within the corpus of literature on the Gospel of John which as a result hasn't dated much. Barrett is essential particularly for his attention to the grammatical aspects of the text.

Note that this is a commentary on the Greek text, and it is detailed and advanced.

Knowledge of Koine Greek is necessary to get the most benefit from Barrett's work.
