Comic and Graphic Books. Fantasy. Juvenile Fiction. It's a free day at Lumberjanes camp, and the Roanoke cabin is...bored out of their skulls. Another cute installment in the Lumberjanes series. This latest collection features scary stories around the campfire, portals to the Jurassic era, the quest to earn easy badges, the bear woman, and more. The characters are ever cute and keep you on your toes with their crazy antics and
Show More
shenanigans. Intended more for middle schoolers, but I guess I'm just young at heart. I can't wait for the next installment!

Jo, April, and Ripley try to do the most boring things they can to earn Lumberjanes badges. Meanwhile, Mal and Molly are on a date when the Bear Woman shows up and things go very, very awry.

The first issue in this volume (issue 9 of the series overall) is a cute standalone where each girl
Show More
(including Jen) tells a scary story. What they all find scary is VERY different! I'm not posting pages of this series anymore because I think you get the idea! The art is very good and fun. Each volume is better than the last. I enjoyed learning a bit more about the girls; I think this is the first time any of them has mentioned anything about their lives outside of camp. I also enjoyed that this is a self-contained story, and I'm ready for the next volume!

Girls at summer camp go to a lost world.

Good. Two stories in four issues is a big change from the previous one story in eight issues. Not a good or a bad change, just very different.

Love this series so much! Thank goodness the library has the next volume waiting for me :)

You know, I don't think I ever read Volume 2, but I got Volume 3 for Christmas, so onto the readathon TBR pile it went. In retrospect, I probably would have enjoyed this more had I checked out Volume 2 first. Ooops.

It doesn't seem like I missed too much in the jump though, and this was still a fun
Show More
read. As a Girl Scout I really identified with Jo, April, and Ripley's quest to earn ALL THE BADGES on a free day at camp. Meanwhile Mal and Molly accidentally portaling into a dinosaur land with a woman who turns into a bear is par for the Lumberjanes course.

I missed the creative famous-ladies-from-history swears.

I can't shake the feeling that I should be more into this than I am, but I liked it well enough.

I really want to like this series because it has lots of elements in its favor: diverse and interesting characters, novel setting, adventure and humor. But the storytelling is just flat. Not bad, just dull.

Consistently cute comic book about some adventurous teen girls at a magical summer camp. Picture something little bit like Adventure Time, mix that with some Scooby-Doo, sprinkle in a little Buffy the Vampire Slayer and youÛªve got the basics of this energetic and progressive comic series.

This is the 3rd volume in the Lumberjanes series and I didn’t think it was quite as good as the previous two volumes. It felt like a transition book to me. I still enjoyed the colorful illustration, the zany characters, and the quirky camp.

The first part of this book was a chapter where the
Show More
characters attempted to tell ghost stories to each other; this was cute but also a bit silly. The rest of the book is dedicated to an adventure that Mal and Molly have with the bear woman. This was a fun adventure but didn’t tie in well with any larger story.

The illustration is still easy to follow and fun. I like the full color. I continue to enjoy the crazy situations these girls are put into.

Overall I enjoyed this graphic novel; it was a fun and quirky read. I didn’t think it was the strongest of the series and hope that a stronger storyline is presented in volume 4.

A stay at The Camp for Hardcore Lady Types wouldn't be complete with out camp shenanigans and competitions. On this particular day when the ladies have a lot of free time, Molly and Mal choose to slip away for a picnic with dire consequences while the other girls work for their scout badges.

Another fun read.

This is the third volume of a YA graphic novel series about they way you wish your summer scout adventure camps had really been.

After a night of telling ghost stories, the girls have a free day. Mal and Molly have a picnic date in the woods, but end up following the supernatural Bear Woman into an
Show More
alternate universe where a small dinosaur has stolen her glasses.

The rest of the girls stay in camp and decide to work on more traditional merit badges – such as cake decorating.

These are very quick reads and also very light. Sometimes, they are exactly what I am looking for!

I *love* the Lumberjanes girls. LOVE them. Also, the storyline is a hoot and the dialogue super-witty and -clever. Just all kinds of love for this series.
