The Ivory tower and the smokestack : 100 years of cooperative education at the University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati is the cradle of cooperative education, more commonly known as co-op. The idea that students should regularly alternate time spent in the classroom with time spent in the workforce as paid professionals had its birth at UC in 1906. This book is the story of cooperative education at UC. The Ivory Tower and the Smokestack looks at the co-op program through the eyes of the young people who, for the past century, gained learning to last a lifetime through UC's practice of "hire education."
