I have re-read this book, photocopied sectoins and sent them off as love notes, visited the characters in my mind, and, in short, never left this work. As good as The Princess Bride is, this blows it away.

I read it as a teenager, it was slow going then. it is a firm, full novel that mostly broke my heart with the walk through the park--haven't you had enough?, isn't it time to quit?-and most painful to read self-destruction ever.i was in love with an older woman then and we would read the novel, and

talk about it for hours at a time. It helped me understand her perspective and colored my own. That new cover is horrible, the original Bantam there in top middle is classic. Stagpole was a monster. Aaron entered into agony. He was a pitch perfect homosexual character. As was Aaron. You just give it up after a while, my friend said on the phone; you realize every place is like every place else and you might as well stay and take it. on that cover, who are the ones embracing? boys or girls together?

I originally acquired "Boys and Girls Together" because I LOVED The Princess Bride (first the movie, then the book, for different reasons). I ploughed throught the ENTIRE 623 pages of "Boys and Girls Together" thinking that, at some point, I would find some semblence of the author that wrote The

Princess Bride. I was sorely mistaken - I HATED this book.

A very readable novel. on the "Trying to make it in New York," theme, popular in the 1950's. Centering on the production of a stage play, the characters are brought before us. Aaron and Branch his principal male characters are well drawn, and I remember being struck with the story of Jenny, the

female "lead" in this performance. Though best known as a scenarist, here is proof that Mr. Goldman had skills in the more traditional formats.
