This book is a great example of a fantasy book, although if you take out the personification of the mice, this could indeed be a realistic fiction. But, for the sake of this, we will consider this book fantasy. The plot of this book is well played out with Wemberly's first day of school and all of
Show More
her worries compiled into one flowing story!

Wemberly worried about everything, until she makes a new friend. Great for grades k-5. the children could draw a picture of a person or item that gives them comfort when they worry.

Wemberly is a sweet character that perhaps many first time students could relate to. Throughout the story Wemberly deals with many issues in which students also have to face. The book teaches children that their is truly no need to worry while still being humorous. Children will certainly enjoy the
Show More
illustrations throughout the book.

I thought this was a very cute story for children. It is about a little mouse named Wemberly who was always worrying about something. Her mother, father, and grandmother always told her not to worry; however, she always did. Then, she remembered that the first day of school was coming up very soon,
Show More
which made her worry more than she ever had before. She began worrying about things that might be wrong with her or that might happen on the first day of school. Once she arrived, she met a girl named Jewel who had a lot in common with her; therefore, she did worry quite as much. In fact, she worried so little that she left school telling the teacher that she would be back tomorrow "don't worry."
I would read this book to children in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. I would read this on the first day of school because it has to do with worrying about the first day of school, which is something that alot of children face. In addition, I would read this when learning about the letter "w" because it is a book that is full of words that begin with "w" and that emphasizes the "w" sound.

Wemberly worried about everything. Her parents and grandmother always tried to get her to stop worrying, but she just couldnt help it. She never had any reason to worry. When school was about to start, she worried even more. On the first day of school, she met a new friend who was just like her,
Show More
and they had so much fun together! Wemberly didnt have to worry after that. This is a great first day of school book to show children they have no need to worry about school.

Wemberly worried about everything. She worried about big things, little things, and things in between. She worried in the morning, evening, and at night. She worried all the time. At her birthday party, she worried that there would not be enough cake. At Holloween, she worried that there would be
Show More
too many butterflies in the parade. When it was time for her to go to school, Wemberly worried that the teacher might be mean, if she couldn't find the bathroom, if the room smelled bad. She worried all of the time. When she got to school, she met the teacher, Ms Peachum. As Ms Peachum talked to Wemberly's parents, she told her she thought she should meet Jewel. Wemberly found that Jewel worried a lot also. They became the best of friends. They had so much fun. Before they knew it, it was time to go home. Wemberly decided she would go back to school the next day, no worries.

worried about before.

Personal Response: I loved this short simple book. I believe that this book would help a lot of young children that worry about thier first day of school. Many students could react to this book, because everyone has worries at some point.

classroom extention:
1-Write about a worry that you have overcome.
2-Draw a picture of something that helps you not worry anymore.

I use this wonderful book at the beginning of the school year. Wemberly makes the adjustment to Kindergarten with the assurances of parents and Grandma. The illustrations are perfect!

Excellent book. Prefect to read on the first day of school to the lower grades. Could use for a lesson on feelings and working through problems.

Wemberly is a worry wart. Her parents and her hysterical grandma try to convince her not to worry. Finally she meets a friend named Jewel on the first day of school, that is just like her. Wemberly is happy and does not worry about school anymore.

A cute little mouse named Wemberly worries about EVERYTHING all the time. Despite her parents and grandmother telling her she worries too much, Wemberly shifts her worries to something new-the first day of school. However, her long list of worries were put to rest by the end of her first day at
Show More
school as she made a new friend and took part in class activities.

I thought this was a cute book. I can relate to Wemberly because I am quite a worrier myself. This would be a good book to read to a child who is fixing to start school or something else new in his or her life.

In the classroom, I could have the children 1) draw a picture of a good friend and write/tell some things they like to do with that friend or things they have in common or 2) we could talk about some of the things they worry about and discuss what they do when they are worried.

Anyone who has ever worried can relate to this book. Henkes explores the beginning school jitters through the lens of a young mouse named Wemberly. Wemberly is somewhat of a chronic worrier, but with supportive parents and a new friend, she discovers that starting school isn't so bad after all.

Wemberly worries about everything. Now school is starting and she worries even more. She wonders what will school be like and if she will make friends. A great book to read to kids who are having worries for their own.

This adorable Kevin Henkes classic can and should be read to any group of apprehensive children during the first days of school. First time kindergarteners/preschoolers will especially appreciate this tale of a young worrier and her first pursuits of friendship and fitting in. One of my all time

favorites!
