Possum wanted to have a party the night before all the animals went in for the winter. None of the animals wanted to come because they were too busy. All the animals looked at the harvest moon and it brought them all together. They had one last party before everyone went to sleep for the winter. I

This children's fiction picture book was about a possum who wants to throw a party to celebrate the harvest moon. He crawled out of his den and noticed the large, yellow harvest moon shining through the grass. He decorated the grass blades with berries and lanterns then was off to invite guests.

First he stopped to see the mice. Possum asked if they would join his harvest moon party but they replied they're too busy collecting seeds for winter. Possum then went to ask the crickets who were snuggled in their leaf beds and tired from singing all summer. Possum then visited raccoon by the creek who was catching fish. He exclaimed there was too much food to eat to make him fat in preparation for winter. Possum then tried the frogs at the pond. They told him they were too cold and needed to go underwater for the winter. Possum left for home lonely and disappointed. He thought how could anyone work during this beautiful moon? He watched the fireflies twinkle while sitting by himself gazing at the moon above. The other creatures realized how big the harvest moon really was as it rose higher. This made them all pause and invite their friends and cousins over to possum's Harvest Soiree. They all brough berries and fiddles, while wearing party hats and singing all night. They were so tired out from so much singing and dancing that they were prepared for a full winter's rest. Possum happily curled up in his den for bed getting a last glimpse at the brightest harvest moon he could remmeber.

Reminds me of "The Ant and the Grasshopper". Possum wants to throw a party but all of the animals are too busy in preparation for winter. However, the beautiful harvest moon takes everyone by surprise and then what?! :)
