"A charming restaurant A book and its mysterious author A little secret A romantic meeting Paris and all its magic. Cyrano de Bergerac meets Chocolat and Amélie in this intelligent, charming, and entertaining publishing sensation from Europe. While in the midst of a breakup-induced depression, Amélie Bredin, a beautiful Parisian restaurateur, discovers an astonishing novel in a quaint bookshop on the Ile Saint-Louis. Inexplicably, her restaurant and Amélie herself are featured in its pages. After reading the whole book in one night, she realizes it has saved her life--and she wishes more than anything to meet its author. Amélie's attempts to contact the attractive but shy English author through his French publishers are blocked by the company's gruff chief editor, Andre; who only with great reluctance forwards Amélie's enthusiastic letter. But Amélie refuses to give up. One day, a response from the reclusive author actually lands in her mailbox, but the encounter that eventually takes place is completely different from what she had ever imagined. Filled with books, recipes, and characters that leap off the page, The Ingredients of Love by Nicolas Barreau is a tribute to the City of Light"--… (more)

Not actively bad enough to be 1 stars, but dull and predictable with bland characters.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It was sweet, romantic and French. I loved the sense of Paris and the vivid colours, food and personalities throughout the book. I rooted for the main characters - Aurelie and Andre. I started reading it and couldn't put it down until I'd finished it. Would

Correct me if I am wrong but I think this is a translation of a novel originally in French? It was not a bad book. I loved the idea, the plot was fresh and continued to move forward but I wanted more from the heroine. She didn't feel complete for some of the book, also the hero felt a bit strange

to me...but it could have been A) the translation or B)Frenchmen (I don't know this as I have no experience). Anyway, decent story. I'll look for other books by this author and try them. I just liked it.

Lovely setting. The writing was a little off but then I realized it was a translation. I probably would have enjoyed it more in its original French.

This was a cute story about how a book brought two people together. It was ok, not bad but not great either.
