Fun story about an ant and a snail and their adventure in writing

Even though this was the winner of the Newbery Medal, I found it hard to follow. It wasn't as I thought it would be, a way to learn writing, but it was amusing to read in its own sense of humor. This was meant for all ages, but I would define the age a bit better. Young children would find the

characters amusing, but would find the message in the book confusing.

Interesting story with the Pooh and Piglet-like characters from Avi's "The End of the Beginning: Being the Adventures of a Small Snail (and an even smaller ant)". Avon the Snail has decided to write a book, but how to start? Edward the Ant helps his friend through the muddle of the writing process,

all the while entertaining readers with clever word play. Those who love "Winnie the Pooh", "Alice in Wonderland" or "The Phantom Tollbooth" will enjoy this very readable--very re-readable--story!

What a fun little tale about language and friends. Avon the snail wants to write. Edward the ant is ready to help. Not sure I would burden a kid with the puns and double entendre running rampant in these clever, twisting pages. But I certainly recommend it to all my friends who like writing or

reading! Super cute.
