A boy finds a lost looking penguin at his doorstep and sets out to help him get home. After a long adventure the boy and the penguin realize that they didn't need home, they needed each other - friends!

This is a fantasy Children's picture book.

Okay, this is my last Jeffers entry. I've got them
Show More
all,m but this is the classic! The subtle illustrations are hilarious and the message of the importance of friendship is one that we can all understand.

I just read this to my kids in first grade and they LOVED it. The penguin is sooo cute, and the message of comfort in friendship is great!

At first sight "Lost and Found" looked as it it was compiled of illustartions which were plain and lacked colour. Upon further investigating I realized the simplicity of the illustrations really compliment the story. The story is about abandonment and isolation in a way, so the single, simple
Show More
illustartions really bring out these feelings. The story was very cute and I liked that the characters were few, but substantial.

Sweet story, with sparse text and delightful illustrations that add a great deal to the story. The ending is pleasingly obvious.

I really liked this book because it had a good message without driving it down your throat. The illustrations are beautiful watercolors that I would like to have hanging on my wall, while bringing the story to life.

This book could be used in a library program centered around friendship and valuing
Show More
the people in your life no matter how they got there.

A boy finds a penguin and tries to bring it back to the South Pole, thinking that the penguin is lost. However, the boy discovers that the penguin wasn't lost, and was just lonely all along. This is an amazing story about friendship.

After I learnt from here about this award winning picture book by Oliver Jeffers, then I also check out Amazon UK and would like to see how other customer review on this book. There was plenty 5 stars comment and therefore I decided to buy it for my nearly 2 years old daughter. A very good book for

little ones learning how to love and share with others.

LOST & FOUND by Oliver Jeffers (Children’s picture book, Board book) 4 star rating

This version of this title is a charming picture book about a boy who one day finds a penguin at his door. The boy decides the penguin must be lost and tries to return him. Since no one claims the penguin, the boy
Show More
decides to take it home himself, and they set out in his row boat on a journey to the South Pole.

Colourful drawings, although I found the ending not-quite satisfying. It’s available in several formats; of course, the board book edition is suitable for the very young.

Read this if: you’re looking for a gentle story of belonging and home. 4 stars

I thought that "Lost and Found" written and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers was a great book. I like the fact that Jeffer's watercolor illustrations are at times both simple and straightforward expressing emotion like the illustration of the penguin alone on page 4 that emphasizes the penguins
Show More
loneliness and sadness. At the same time Jeffer's uses framing, as he does on page 3, to express the movement of time as the the penguin follows the young boy wherever he goes. I really enjoyed the story especially the boys comic and exaggerated attempts to return what he believes is a "lost" penguin. Its clear early on that the penguin is not as concerned with returning to the south pole as the boy is in getting him there and the conclusion does a great job of describing how the boy comes to the realization that the penguin was never really lost at all. Themes of friendship and an understanding of what makes a place "home" are clear throughout and the author does a great job of expressing these through the narrative.

Cute and teaches important social lesson of understanding the needs and perspectives of others.

In my opinion, I thought that this was a wonderful book. I thought that the illustrations in this book accompanied the text very well. Both the illustrations and the text complimented each other since they were quite child-like. For example, the boy in the story has dots for eyes, no mouth, and
Show More
really skinny arms and legs. I think that the boy is representative of a child’s drawing. The text was also quite simple. For example, Jeffers writes, “The penguin looked sad and the boy thought it must be lost.” Also, I thought that the illustrations conveyed the mood very well. For example, when the boy realized that he had made a mistake in letting the penguin go, Jeffers drew stars and swirls around the boy’s head to emphasize the shocked look he had on his face. Little details like that definitely enhances the story and the emotions that it conveys. After reading this book, I found that the big idea is to always value friendship and loyalty.

A boy finds a penguin in front of his house and he doesn't know what to do with it. He decides to help the penguin get back home. When they find the penguin's home, the boy realizes that the penguin is not lost but lonely. A very nice story to help children understand other people's feelings.

Lost and Found is a lovable story about friendship and adventure. I enjoyed reading it and I know students would love it too.
It could be used for a class read-aloud or for ambitious beginning readers.

This is a heart warming story. It talks about a penguin who shows up at a boys house. The boy searched to find out where the penguin came from and decided to take him to the South pole. They travelled in a boat there together, sharing stories with one another. The boy dropped the penguin off and as
Show More
he was leaving in his boat, he saw how sad the penguin looked. It talks about how he is lonely, which could be a good book to introduce the emotion of being lonely. It has a happy ending and I really enjoyed all the pictures!

This is a lovely story of friendship. Would use during our penguin unit as an additional read aloud.

This picture book is about a boy who finds a penguin at his door and decides he will help the little penguin get home. After he returns the penguin to the South Pole, he realizes the lonely penguin was looking for a friend. Eventually, they are happily reunited.

The illustrations are a combination
Show More
of light ink outline and soft watercolors. The little boy has a Picasso-like face and two sticks for legs. The penguin has two basic expressions. Body language is used to convey emotion as the facial illustrations do not portray much.

My 2 1/2-year-old granddaughter enjoyed the story and was happy the penguin and the boy became friends. She liked how the little boy did everything on his own and showed kindness and courage. A sweet story about an unusual friendship.

"Once there was a boy who found a penguin at his door..." So begins this sweet, heartwarming tale, the second of four to feature the aforementioned boy and his adventures. Determining that his penguin visitor is lost, the boy sets out to return him to his home in the South Pole. After a long
Show More
voyage, one featuring plenty of stories and good fellowship, the two arrive at their destination. But although he has reached his goal, the boy isn't happy...

Like its predecessor, How to Catch a Star, Lost and Found features an engaging young protagonist who longs for something - in that earlier book, it was a star, here it is to make his penguin friend happy - and finds it in an unexpected way. Like Shaun Tan's marvelous The Lost Thing, Jeffers' Lost and Found was made into a short animated film in 2008, and after reading the picture-book, I'd definitely like to track down and watch the movie. This is one I'd recommend to those looking for children's stories about friendship - the loneliness its absence creates, and the unexpected ways one finds and creates it - as well as to anyone who read and enjoyed the earlier story about this boy-character and his life.

friendship and animals habitats in a fun way.

Oliver Jeffers knows how to write a simple and sweet story. In this, a little boy finds a lost penguin and is determined to help him find home. But in the end, he realizes that maybe the penguin was not lost at all, maybe he was just lonely. Jeffers is a popular author for a reason and this book
Show More
does not disappoint.

There is a playfulness and sweetness about Oliver Jeffers' books that catches me. This and Up and Down are about a friendship formed when a penguin gets lost and a boy tries to help him.

My son and I love this book. On the sweeter end of the spectrum for Oliver Jeffers. Also love Stuck, Book eating boy and Up & Down.
