"There's a crisp in the air / From I-don't-know-where / But it might be / A snowsong whistling." So begins the rhythmic rhyming text of this lovely picture-book celebration of autumn, as all developments - the fruits and food of fall, the holiday celebrations - lead toward the coming of

Although unfamiliar with author Karen E. Lotz before picking up Snowsong Whistling, I was familiar with the work of illustrator Elisa Kleven, whose colorful collage-style artwork I have always found immensely appealing. I'm glad I gave this one a chance, as, in addition to finding the visuals charming, I also thought the text was engaging, and would make for a rollicking read-aloud selection at a seasonal story-time. Autumn is my favorite season, and I enjoyed this sweet picture-book tribute to it. Not only did it recall many of the pleasure of this time of year, it reminded me that I need to track down more of Kleven's gorgeous work. Recommended to picture-book readers looking for autumn titles.
