Description

Nonfiction. Humor (Nonfiction.) HTML: Guys have long been the most popular subject of Dave Barry's columns, rivaled only by dogs (not that there's such a big difference). Here is Dave's mission for Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys: A Fairly Short Book: "What we need on the part of both genders is more under standing of guyness. And that is why I wrote this book. I intend to explore every facet of guyhood, including the historical facet, the sociological facet, and the facet of how come guys spit so much. Every statement of fact you will read in this book is either based on actual laboratory tests, or else I made it up. But you can trust me. I'm a guys.".

I first read Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys back in high school and it pretty much validated everything I suspected about my gender. Barry speaks the hilarious truth here. Women, if you ever catch yourself skimming through this one, keep in mind that you may think he's joking when in fact he's

There were parts of this book where I was laughing so hard, I couldn't keep reading. First read in college, but several times since. The Richard and Elaine thing still makes me laugh!

Another hilarious Barry work! I had to finally stop reading it at the airport for fear of getting a special screening because I was laughing so hard! Great book!

Quite possibly the funniest book I've ever read. Chapter 4, "Tips for Women: How to Have a Relationship with a Guy" had me laughing so hard I nearly wet my pants. In fact, of all the books I own or have read, I have shared that particular chapter with more people than any other book or excerpt.

My favorite Barry book: I first read it while stuck in a completely full plane on a runway in Dallas, waiting for the local tornadoes to go away so we could take off. We waited five hours, most of which I spent reading this book. I was smiling most of the time, and periodically broke into

hysterical laughter. The rest of the passengers stared at me, my husband muttered more and more vehemently, but I had a great time. Thanks, Dave!
The book nails several aspects of typical American male behavior which can be summed up in the word "guy". It includes a couple of classic shticks, including Roger and Elaine (she's thinking about the relationship, he's thinking about his car. She thinks he's thinking about the relationship, he's not thinking about what she's thinking about). A very funny book.

I second the opinion of the other Librarything reviewers. Really funny. Not a bad shower gift for the unsuspecting bride.
