Description

Joss, overwhelmed by exams and debt, finds her life further complicated after being attacked by a group of brain-hungery zombies and must use the knowledge she has gained from watching too many zombie movies to get out of her dorm alive.

Media reviews

The character expressions are terrific; I instantly felt like I knew this group and cared about them surviving, which added to the tension and suspense Hicks had already created.

A hilarious graphic novel in which a zombie-movie obsessed college girl finds that zombies have taken over her school. She uses the knowledge she has learned from the countless zombie movies to save her and her two friends.

An amusing graphic novel about zombies taking over campus. No one believes Joss, even when she's explaining her rules of zombie survival. But when her friends look outside and find their campus overrun with zombies, they only thing they can do is hope that Joss's rules will save them.

This was an adorable, funny, and surprisingly dramatic zombie movie parody. To my surprise, at some point it also turned into a character-centric meditation on how how being an ordinary college student is actually scarier than any zombie attack.

the characters, Robyn, seemed to spend a lot of time standing around while the other two talked, and the ending was slightly cheesy), but I thought the pacing was excellent, which conceals many sins where plot is concerned.

I've been a fan of Faith Erin Hicks' webcomics for ages - since high school, I think? - and it was really nice to read her work in print. Her art looks great in this format!

Also it is set in CANADA and has such wonderful lines as, "Canada has an army?"

Zombies Calling by Faith Erin Hicks is a humorous look at what an attack by zombies would be like in a Canadian university. Everything starts when Joss wants to take a break from studying for finals and would prefer to be anywhere else, including in the middle of a zombie movie. Quickly though she

regrets that wish!

Joss, the zombie movie obsessed main character, has to rethink her assessment of zombies in light of a zombie attack. They don't seem to be following the script she's expecting. She also comes to realize that a zombie attack in a country with strict gun laws might not be such a good idea.

I laughed repeatedly while reading Zombies Calling, though I did end up with "London Calling" by the Clash stuck in my head for the rest of the night after I finished the book. I posted some of my favorite panels to Tumblr too.
