Tom Angleberger is the author of the wildly popular "The Strange Case of the Origami Yoda" and "Darth Paper Strikes Back", neither of which I read. But I was curious about this guy's writing, so I dived in. This book is hilarious and will appeal to boys and girls alike. The premise is a novelty

company sells a 12 year old boy a very expensive, and very possessed, mustache. He becomes an instant master criminal, robbing banks and planning world domination. His best friend teams up with a former child star to try to stop him. There's plenty of action and no small amount of humor in this book (I chuckled through most of the book). This book doesn't have the visual help of a Star Wars figure on it's cover, but if a kid picks it up, they are going to fall into the story with glee.

Lenny Flem Jr must work to stop his best friend Casper after he buys a fake mustache that causes him to plot the takeover of the world. Lenny has to disguise himself as a famous TV cowgirl, Jodie O'Rodeo, and a werewolf to avoid being captured by local groups of townspeople Casper has brainwashed.

The real Jodie and Lenny eventually work together to stop the Mustache's takeover. A very funny book! Kids and adults will enjoy it. Short chapters and off the wall story will appeal to reluctant readers.

When Lenny's best friend, Casper, buys a fake mustache with his gift money, suddenly the world is in danger. While wearing the mustache, Casper becomes an evil villain complete with bank robberies, fixed elections and a plan for world domination. Only Lenny seesm to be able to see through his

mustache to the 12 year old underneath, but no one believes him - no one but Jodie O'Rodeo, who will hopefully help him save the day.

I did not enjoy this book - it was too whimsical and far fetched for my taste, even for a fun comic-y boy book.

Yep, that’a not a typo: The Plus and the Minus are the same! Fake Mustache is something of a tall tale wherein Tom Angleberger has taken elements as far flung as trolleys, a Wonder Horse, a child TV star, novelty toys and cell phones… and spun a fantastic and amusing story; but utterly unbelievable. There’s no device that transforms Fake Mustache into a plausible scenario which is not a bad thing, just makes this more of a book for pure entertainment value than anything else.

While I loved The Strange Case of Origami Yoda,this book falls to thrill me. I didn't enjoy the slapstick humor and I thought there was no depth to the characters. This book was recommended by a very reliable source, but it did not impress me. Its one redeeming quality is that it might appeal to

reluctant boy readers.

I loved Angleberger’s Origami Yoda series, and was pleased to see this on the list of nominees for the Sasquatch Award in Washington State. As a librarian I was pleased to see our profession being represented by librarians who know ninja kicks. It is all because of the fake mustache Casper,

Lenny’s genius friend bought. Now Casper has turned into a bank robber accumulating millions of dollars in his quest to be president. The humor is definitely for kids! I had kids waiting for it before it was ready to check out and I bet they’ll like it much more than I did. (grade 3-6)

This book is ludicrous and I would have adored it as a kid. 7th grader Lenny's best friend Casper purchases a very convincing fake mustache that for some reason has the power of mind control. He uses it to rob a bank and ultimately run for president. Lenny is the only person who can see through the

disguise. Along the way he gets help from Jodie O'Rodeo, a TV star who sings and rides a horse. It's not a long book, but it's extremely silly and fun even for this adult reader.
