Booktalk draft: Ben Diaz has pulled off an amazing prank at school: He's filled his sixth-grade classroom with those plastic balls you find it those ball pits that little kids like to play in. All the kids at school thought it was the coolest prank and Ben wonders if he could pull off another fun

prank. But he's going to need help and he has to be careful about whom he gets to help out because he doesn't want helpers who are going to snitch to the principal. So he forms a club called the League of Pickle Makers. With a name like that, no sane kid will want to join so he can keep the club small with people he trusts to help with pranks. But...even though the pranks are fun and no one gets hurt, in the end someone has to face the consequences. But if you were Ben, would you admit it to the principal?

It all started when Ben found an advertisement for used ball pit balls...he brought them home but his parents weren't too happy so he quietly poured them in through his classroom window. And thus the prank club was born. As all good prank clubs go, it had to be a secret. Four friends, plus one new

student, create hilarious pranks and learn a little about being themselves and standing up for what they believe in, too.

This book was a quick read and felt spot on with the characters. While I would not want to be a teacher or administrator at that school, I would certainly love to be a student. Except for the crickets.

*Very similar feel to Terrible Two

This book is great fun -- it manages to balance on the fine line of hilarious pranks without being mean-spirited or hugely destructive. It also delves deep into the themes of friendship, family, and finding out who you are.
